Dr. Josh Brunty, a West Virginia native, is the Head Coach of the United States Cyber Team and an Associate Professor with a joint appointment in the Department of Computer Sciences and Electrical Engineering and the Department of Criminal Justice, Criminology, and Forensic Sciences at Marshall University in Huntington, WV. He also serves as the Director of the Cyber Forensics & Security graduate program and the Research Lead for Marshall's Institute of Cyber Security.

Prior to joining Marshall University in 2012, Dr. Brunty served seven years as a Digital Forensics Examiner and Technical Leader within both state and federal government sectors. He holds a Ph.D. in Information Technology from Middle Georgia State University, and B.A. and M.S. degrees in Criminal Justice and Criminology from Marshall University.

In addition to serving as coach of the US National Team, Dr. Brunty has been the Faculty Advisor and coach of Marshall's highly successful Collegiate Cyber Defense Competition Team. Under his guidance, the team has consistently performed at a high level in various Capture the Flag (CTF) and Red versus Blue (RvB) competitions. Notable achievements include a first-place national championship finish in the National Cyber League (Spring 2020) and four consecutive Top Ten finishes from 2018 to 2020. Additionally, he has mentored various high school teams participating in the Air Force Association's CyberPatriot Competition that has won past state championships in the state of WV.

Dr. Brunty's expertise in cybersecurity, digital forensics, and education, coupled with his academic background and professional experience, position him as a leading figure in the field. His commitment to mentoring and guiding students in this rapidly evolving domain demonstrates his dedication to fostering the next generation of cybersecurity professionals.
